Hi All,

Any of you using valve based gear out there? Got any burnt out or cracked valves? May I have them? Miniature preferred, but I'll take anything I can get. These will be becoming artwork so I'm really not fussed about them working...

If you'd only asked a week ago...we had roadside pick up last week and they all went.

You had multiple old valves? *boggle*

Out of curiosity, what were they out of? An old amplifier?

How many do you need? I might be able to squeeze a couple out of Dad.

Um...OldThings(TM) I actually have no idea...there was a variety of OldThings floating around and Tusk finally did the big CleanUp, recognising that while they might be cool to have around he really wasn't going to use them and the room that would be created with their absence would be better utilised.

one or more :-)

I'm doing steampunkey stuff. Valves give such a wonderful old school feel to things.

I've passed on the request to Dad - he keeps some as spares, so he might actually need them. He's got 50+ years of ham radio equipment to keep going.

You could also try the Wireless Institute:

http://www.wia.org.au/

They do garage sales sometimes. All kinds of ancient junk equipment and bits.

I've got a cute little subassembly with 3 different sized tubes in it you can have. It comes from an ancient RF test set that I got at the Wyong hamfest. There were loads of tubes to be had there, that's for sure.

You can harvest the tube sockets from it as well, if that works with your design. Might make them easier to mount.

Cool that'd be great! The scokets will give a wonderfully "real" feel to my Mk3 Electric Repeating Rifle.

:O

Got valves

Dad says "yes":

>I should be able to spring a dozen or so small glass 7 and/or 9 pin types - certainly all used in unknown condition ...I can throw in a large transmitting tube too, but that is made of ceramic and silver plated metal - no glass at all. Will that do?

>There is the WIA "Helpline" service on :

>royshelpline@bigfoot.com

>Which might produce something further if he hasn't tried already. Helpline is broadcast on the WIA news every Sunday and circulated via an email distribution list. Ads are in a typical Wanted "classified ad" format with a contact phone number. It's free. I don't think it's restricted to members as it's all on the basis of helping someone i.e in this case to get rid of old valves. Of course some holders of old valves might want to sell them so be aware of that.

Woo! All that sounds great!

How do I get them off you / him? I work in the city these days, and see people who work all over...

Oh and the transmitting tube sounds really funky too.

I'll pick them up in the next couple of days and then we can do a handover in the city (I work on the west end of the Terrace). I'll be in touch.

I've got the stuff, and this is a bad pic of the coaxial transmitting tetrode:

I've sent an email to arrange The Drop.

BTW it all fits in a marge container.
