So I was watching Battlestar Galactica season Two

(yes, I know season 3 is now being shown, stop snickering!)

So I'm watching away when I notice, from the corner of my eye, something odd.

"Hey! It's that crap spaceship from the ORIGINAL BSG".

In the original there was this spaceship that consisted of 3 8mm film cannisters glued edge to edge in a line covered by a fine layer of greeblie. Obviously trying to make up a "fleet of rag-tag spaceships" became harder and more time consuming as things went on, to the point where someone said "No-one'll notice, will they?".

Of course we did.

What gets me with it being in the new BSG is the ships are all CGI. This makes it quite a complicated in joke from the CG modellers.

I expect the conversation went something like this:

Bruce: "Hey Fran! You remember thad godawful spaceship made of film cannisters in the original?"
Fran: "Vaguely. Was it the one that looked like three disks joined together badly?"
Bruce: "That's the one. Guess what I just made..."
Fran: "Augh! TeeHee! Ya think anyone will notice?"
Bruce: "I reckon 1 in 30 people will recognise it".

And thus this hideous fan in-joke was born.
