OK folks, Lets say I was looking at a nice big screen, say something in the 42" (106cm) space and I wanted 1080p as a resolution. Not so concerned about refresh rate, but would like something that'll last a few years. I'd also prefer something with a 24 bit colour gamut rather than 18bit. What is the current thoughts on LCD vs Plasma?

Now I know the refresh rate brightness issues that plagued earlier LCDs are now gone. Are the lifespan of earlier Plasma still an issue (Ie Burn-in, limited running time?) or have they got those out to acceptable limits? Why is Plasma so much cheaper?

What are the things I should be looking out for and watching out for?

Some notes:
  • Currently I have only got component outputs. All my gear is component. (PS2, Wii, HTPC)
  • I'd expect to upgrade the HTPC to HDMI pretty much immediately, with something like one of these.
  • Down the track I'd expect to add more HDMI to the mix as I move towards getting either a X360 or a PS3, (Depending on how much overtime I end up doing)
Feel free to ask leading questions. These technologies are always evolving, and I took my finger off the pulse for 2 years...
