I had no problems with Perdido Street Station or The Scar, but Iron Council defeated me.

(It was the scene where they are fleeing for their lives from the Militia, every moment counts, it's a race against time, and they start describing the flora and fauna of the landscape that they are fleeing through in a leisurely way - for four or five pages...)

Looking for Jake: Stories is much more tightly written: I think I prefer Mieville-the-short-story-writer to Mieville-the-novelist.

How did you find Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell: A Novel?

I enjoyed JS&MN a lot. It was a very pleasant read.

I'll try the Mieville short stories because I don't think I can be bothered reading another novel like that...
