Windows Joystick Query

cheshirenoirSo I've been trying to find a way to remap joystick buttons on a generic joystick under WinXP.
What i want to be able to do is press (say) button 4 but the destination software to think a different button has been pressed.
Some software for some joysticks lets you do this for "free" but I haven't had any luck finding something generic...
Any suggestions?
