So I've been trying to find a way to remap joystick buttons on a generic joystick under WinXP.

What i want to be able to do is press (say) button 4 but the destination software to think a different button has been pressed.

Some software for some joysticks lets you do this for "free" but I haven't had any luck finding something generic...

Any suggestions?

ugh I should know this one, but it's been literally years since I've played a joystick game.

I use em all the time. It's mostly for emulators. It's just REALLY REALLY annoying to not be able to reconfigure the buttons in the few games that it makes a difference.

I believe gamepads may work a little better. At least when I was playing Everquest, a gamepad (with 6-10 programmable buttons) was apparently the way to go.
