If I was able to score a bunch of VT510 terminals, would any of the UCC crowd be interested in them? I'm talking about 30. I believe they all work. There is also the possibibility of some dead ones for spares if interested.

Hmm. I might be interested in a handful for Murdoch, depending. Our old ones keep dying. Although they're only used in a couple of places.

I continue to be completely bemused there's no magic little box that takes serial at one end and vga/keyboard at the other.

I think that's cos most people are now using Citrix in that space.

Especially with things like these around
Product Highlights:
Runs off PoE so only 1 cable, permanently Kroned in.
Uses off the shelf USB KB/Mouse & VGA.
Embedded Citrix Client.

Citrix really doesn't help me display the serial output that comes out the management port of my Sun boxen....

I ended up getting a concentrator device that lets me ssh to them. Which is nifty in its own right.

Ah! I see what you mean.

I used to have a PC with an 8 port serial board running RDS for that kind of thing.

Brute force and ugly, but as I had both the serial board AND the PC as spares it was cost effective.

Also I suspect someone in our circle could build something that bolts a MAX232 chip onto a XPort XE and then you'd have a web interface to your serial port.

You mean something like this? Or for a more authentic DEC term experience, how about a genuine (or as genuine as you can get these days) VT525?
