I was wikiwandering today when I cam across the following:
During the late-1990s, Kamov and Israeli Air Industries developed a tandem-seat cockpit version, the Kamov Ka-50-2 Erdogan (Turkish for "Born Warrior"), to compete in Turkey's attack helicopter competition.
So let me get this straight.
A Russian company designs a variant of a Soviet Airforce "Tankbuster" helicopter in conjunction with an Israeli aerospace company for a competition to provide Turkey with armaments.
In 1988, that would have been unimaginable...
Sigh!

Date: 2008-07-21 03:22 pm (UTC)The Russians do arguably design better attack helo's than the Americans for desert combat regions - but what is amusing is they lost the competition to a reworked 1960s Huey Cobra.
