Using the collective MindSearchEngine

I'm looking for software to turn a voicemodem into a "smart" answering machine.

Features I'd really like is some sort of menu system "press one to..."

Finally "free" is a good price. Linux OR windoze.

asteriskpbx will do some of this, check out pbxinaflash.net you can set up a voip pabx with a web interface and with a sipura 3102 you can bring in analog pots connection. Mgetty will also handel talking to rockwell compatible voice modems, and has answering machine functions, think it is the voice addon to mgetty that does it.

Hmm. I have a couple of "legacy" Voicemodems, and this is more to play around with initially, so I'll keep looking.

I used to have an app that'd do this. I'm sure Google will turn something up...

mgetty and some scriptyness is the easiest way to go.

Most of it is already set up, just commented out.

This is obviously a definition of "easiest" I hadn't previously encountered :-)
