Via BoingBoing comes this little item on why it's cool to fold the corners and scribble in the margins.

To Quote: I personally believe that there is no greater respect that can be shown a book than by using it.

I'd second this article,
and go further -
when i lend someone a book,
i'd love for them to write in it too,
at least their name.
Th book's own little history!

Jewish scholars've been doin this for centuries.
In fact, particularly well-written marginalia,
or at least, ones written by famous ppl,
will get formally added to new editions.
Some of their oldest books
have two or three layers of comments,
with th original text in a little square
in th middle of each page.
